How much a website costs in Malaysia in 2026

A business website in Malaysia costs from about RM1,400 to well past RM20,000 over two years, depending on how you buy it. Four common routes are compared below and in a two-year cost table. WebX, the subscription service we run, is option 4.

Freelancer (RM2,500 to RM8,000 up front)

A freelance web designer builds you a custom site, usually on WordPress, for four separate costs.

  • Build: RM2,500 to RM8,000 for a 5 to 10 page business site. Below RM2,500 you are often getting a template with your logo swapped in.
  • Hosting: RM100 to RM500 a year, usually paid by you.
  • Domain: roughly RM40 to RM120 a year, .com or .com.my.
  • Maintenance: often not quoted, in which case small changes are billed ad hoc or the site goes stale. When it is quoted, expect a few hundred ringgit a year for updates and backups.

A good freelancer at RM5,000 can outdo an agency at RM15,000, and a bad one leaves you with a broken site and an unanswered phone. Check the live sites they built and ask who handles changes next year. Content, revision and approval rounds take two to six weeks of your own time. Projects stall most often when the customer side runs out of steam writing the content.

Agency (RM8,000 and up)

Agencies add people, process and accountability: project management, design revisions, sometimes copywriting and photography. RM8,000 is a realistic floor for a small-business site, rising to RM15,000 to RM50,000 and above once branding, custom features or e-commerce enter the brief. Hosting and maintenance are often a separate retainer.

An agency, or a proven senior freelancer, suits a business whose website is central, sells online at volume, needs custom systems or has a brand that justifies the spend. For a simple business that mainly needs to look credible when someone Googles it, an agency is more than the job requires.

DIY builder (RM60 to RM110 a month)

Wix, Squarespace and the other builders advertise low starting prices. A proper business plan with your own domain and no platform advertising is RM60 to RM110 a month, or RM720 to RM1,320 a year.

Choosing the template, writing the copy, setting up the domain and fixing pages that look wrong on a phone takes most owners 20 to 40 hours of unfamiliar work. DIY makes sense when you enjoy this work, your budget is tight and your time is free, and all three need to hold.

WebX subscription (from RM99 a month)

WebX builds the site, and hosting and https sit inside the one price. Every plan includes the free yourname.webx.my address from the day the site goes live. A domain of your own is separate. Connecting one you already own is free, with step-by-step instructions. A managed domain is RM199 a year, registered in your name with the records and https handled by us for as long as the subscription runs, and it goes with you if you leave.

BusinessRM149RM1,788Up to 8By the next business day

Renewal is at the sign-up price. Business adds Google Business Profile setup and a monthly traffic and uptime report. Priority adds a second language, a quarterly refresh of the look and one WebX staff member assigned to your account.

There is no editing login, so you send us the change request and we make it (owners who want hands-on control should pick a DIY builder). Requests are unlimited and worked one at a time, so a second request queues behind the first and your account shows where it sits in the line. A change request covers text, photos, prices, opening hours, promotions and section content inside your existing pages.

The price is lower than a freelancer's build fee because AI does the building and most change requests. A member of our team steps in when a request needs judgment.

WebX does not do online stores, booking systems, member logins or forms. Contact runs through WhatsApp buttons, phone, email and map links, and if you sell, the site links out to Shopee, TikTok Shop or WhatsApp.

Two-year cost table

Two years is the window, because a one-off build and a subscription only compare across a renewal.

Ranges are typical 2026 market figures and individual quotes vary.

At the bottom of the range a freelancer costs less. A RM2,500 build plus two years of hosting and a domain lands around RM2,800, against RM3,576 for WebX Business, which does not include a domain. A managed domain on WebX is RM199 a year extra, so a like for like total with two years of a managed domain is RM3,974, roughly RM1,200 more than the freelancer figure. Connecting a domain you already own instead costs RM40 to RM120 a year and keeps the WebX total at RM3,576.

The extra buys the two years after the build, when every change is included. Anchor Sprint charges about RM250 for a single ad hoc change and Exabytes about RM500 per amendment, so three changes at RM250 come to RM750, close to the whole gap in one year. It also buys somebody still being there eighteen months on, when your prices have changed and the freelancer has taken a full-time job.

If your site will not change after launch, a good freelancer at the low end is cheaper. If your prices, photos, promotions or opening hours move during the year, the subscription is cheaper.

What inflates a website bill

  1. E-commerce. Once "sell online" enters the brief, you add payment gateways, product management, shipping logic and security, and a RM4,000 project becomes RM12,000. A marketplace store plus a simple site often does the same job for a fraction of the cost.
  2. Custom features. Booking calendars, calculators, member areas and integrations with other software are each development work that needs maintenance for as long as the site runs.
  3. Content rounds. A project quoted at three revisions that runs to eight is re-billed or the relationship sours. Having your words, photos and prices ready before the build starts avoids most extra rounds.
